GENOA CITY, WI—Not many women can say that they have been widowed twice by the same man, but this Monday after her fugitive husband’s blood and tissue remains were uncovered in a remote cabin that had burned to the ground, Chelsea Newman sank into a pit of despair when police say her brother-in-law confirmed her worst nightmare—her husband was dead…again. “They found Adam’s remains. He didn’t make it,” conveyed a clearly distraught Nicholas Newman.
Adam Newman, who had been on the run since escaping a transportation detail returning him to Walworth State Penitentiary after being indicted for brutally attacking a prison guard, was thought to have sought refuge in the cabin before the freak accident blew him to kingdom come.
Further reports revealed that this isn’t the first time Newman has been presumed dead. “The fugitive was involved in a fatal car crash on April of 2014”, said police chief Paul Williams in a brief conference with the media. “Investigators were able to prove that his car had lost control and careened off of a cliff. When we arrived at the scene we found Mr. Newman trapped in the wreckage, but our efforts to remove him were halted when the car exploded into a fiery ball, before melting the ice that caused the car to slip into an icy river where strong currents carried it away.”
Police later concluded that Newman had either been burnt to a crip or frozen to a popsicle and closed the investigation. “We had every reason to believe that Mr. Newman was dead as it was unlikely that anyone could walk away from something like that alive.”

Newman’s wife and child were forced to pick up the pieces and move on as normally as they could. A year later, in July 2015, however, they received the shock of their lives when they discovered that Newman was indeed very much alive and masquerading around town under the assumed identity of Gabriel Bingham, a man who had died mysteriously around the same time Newman’s car crash occurred.
With the help of an accomplice who knew Bingham before his death, Newman was able to kindly borrow the dead man’s handsome bone structure and birth records to stellar results. Court records related to the hit-and-run case of Cordelia Abbott provided a fascinating timeline of events from Newman’s car crash in April 2014, his miraculous surgeries at the hands of a skillful plastic surgeon located deep in the South American rainforest, to his triumphant return to Genoa City.
A doctor who did not operate on Newman was brought in by the district attorney’s office as an expert witness during the trial. “These type of procedures, though quite rare, are indeed possible and only a handful of surgeons in the world are able to execute them for the right price,” Dr. Sheila Varter testified. “You can do a complete body overhaul; adjust the pitch and tone of the larynx and, as evidenced by Mr. Newman, add an additional two inches onto his skeletal structure. Eyeballs can be swapped out as well.”
Dr. Seth Mosely, the coroner charged with sifting through the hundreds of bags containing forensic evidence from what was left of the cabin, lamented to reporters that he just wished the body had remained somewhat intact. “I would have loved to perform an autopsy on the cadaver. I have friends on staff at God Have Mercy Memorial Hospital who claim this man was treated several times after not one, not two, but three fires! It would’ve been nice to cut him open and see if he did have some kind of iron lung in there.”
