In case you missed it, the 44th Daytime Emmy Awards streamed live on Facebook Sunday, April 30th 2017. The event took place at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and was hosted by Mario Lopez and Sheryl Underwood. Here are some highlights:
The top prize for Outstanding Drama series went to General Hospital. If you’re interested in how the judging process is done here are the basic rules as outlined by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS):
- Daytime programming must be broadcast between the hours of 2:00AM and 6:00PM.
- Eligible programs must have originally aired between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016.
- Judges must be qualified as a peer in their craft and active members in either NATAS or ATAS (Television Academy).
So, despite consistently ranking three out of four in weekly total viewership ratings, General Hospital for pretty much best soap. They also won in 2016. As a matter of fact General Hospital holds the record for the most awards in the Outstanding Drama Series category, followed by The Young and the Restless with nine wins and The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of Our Lives tying with three wins. Here a rundown of the rest of the winners:-
